The College administrator provides administrative assistance to the College Principal, Vice Principal, Facilities Manager, teachers and overseas partners. They act as first point of contact for college enquiries, and where required serve the College committees and councils. The College administrator is available to discuss student concerns as part of the College Team and is responsible for student data and liaison. The job can be busy at key times in the academic year, when some long hours may be necessary. There are good opportunities for career progression via promotion into senior administrative, managerial and project management roles in the UK or overseas.

Birmingham College accepts students from the age of 18. To meet safeguarding requirements successful applicants will be subject to a CRB / DBS check and references will be followed up.

Good interpersonal, IT, numeracy, organisational, time management, negotiation and communication skills are essential. A polite telephone manner and discretion when dealing with confidential information is also very important. A minimum qualification of a HND or Bachelors degree is preferred. Previous higher/further education, office or commercial work experience can also be helpful.

  • Be the main point of contact for all enquiries (from both internal and external sources)
  • To plan, organize, and administer the activities of the college/ partners
  • Working on committees including academic boards, governing bodies and task groups;
  • Assisting with recruitment, marketing activities, admission queries and building and sustaining student relations;
  • Administering the 'student lifecycle' from application to leaving and future destination;
  • Providing administrative support to management, academic team of lecturers, teachers & visiting staff;
  • Drafting and interpreting regulations and dealing with queries and complaints procedures;
  • Coordinating external examinations and assessment processes of mock exams;
  • Maintaining high levels of quality assurance, including that of the course, staff and students;
  • Using college portals and preparing reports and statistics for internal and external use;
  • Supporting with the development of college portals;
  • Contributing to policy and planning discussions with college committees;
  • Managing budgets and ensuring financial systems are followed;
  • Purchasing goods and equipment, as required, and processing invoices;
  • Supervising staff;
  • Liaising with other administrative staff, academic colleagues and students;
  • Liaising with partner institutions, other institutions, external agencies, government departments and prospective students
  • Organising and facilitating a variety of educational or social activities.

Birmingham College welcomes applications from ELT and EAP teachers interested in working as part of a team to deliver learner-centred General English, EAP and IELTS programmes.

This is an opportunity for recently-qualified teachers to work alongside an established ELT expert, while more experienced tutors will have the satisfaction of contributing to a new department in a well-resourced college and supporting mature learners who are working towards an IFP or General English and IELTS preparation programmes. Teachers are expected to have an interest in their professional development and be prepared to maintain both student and teaching records. The ideal candidate will have experience of working with Gulf Arab learners and be familiar with preparing students for IELTS 5.0+ as well as supporting professionals who require 7.0.

The College has links with overseas colleges and universities. It is anticipated that there will be opportunities for teachers interested in teaching on and contributing to the development of ELT programmes at these institutions.

A minimum qualification of a Bachelors Degree and TESOL Certificate is required. The certificate course should have included a minimum of 100 hours face-to-face tuition and 5 hours observed teaching practice. Applications from TEFLQ teachers are also welcome (DELTA or Trinity College (London) Licentiate Diploma A CELTA / DELTA. Previous higher/further education teaching / work experience can also be helpful but not essential. To be considered as a lecturer / trainer, you must be educated to at least a Masters level and have previous teaching / training experience within your subject area. The appointments will be made on a part time temporary basis, and will generally require about 15 contact hours per week. Flexibilities are offered.
